Abstract

The article is an interview on iron deficiency anemia in gynecological patients with TF Tatarchuk, specialist of endocrine gynecology of the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology of the NAMS Ukraine.

The main causes of iron deficiency anemia in gynecological patients are chronic uterine bleeding caused by menorragia of various origins, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and pelvic tumors. Another common cause of iron deficiency anemia in women is gastrointestinal bleedings.

Reduced level of hemoglobin is the main indicator of the iron deficiency.

Treatment of iron deficiency anemia should include the following steps: elimination of anemia, saturation therapy (recovery of iron level), supportive therapy.

For the treatment of iron deficiency anemia it should be preferred ferric iron drugs because they have not side effects that occur while taking ferrous iron medicines.
